Information for Parents, Carers and Families
It can feel worrying or confusing if professionals start talking about assessments, Child in Need plans, Child Protection plans, Section 47 enquiries or court processes.
This section explains what these terms mean and what families can expect if Children’s Services become involved.
Most children and families who receive support from Children’s Services do not go through court proceedings. In many cases, families receive help and support at an early stage to prevent problems from becoming more serious.
The different pages in this section explain:
- Universal services and everyday support available to all families.
- Early Help and support for families when difficulties first arise.
- Child in Need support (Section 17).
- Child Protection processes (Section 47).
- Child Protection Conferences and Child Protection Plans.
- Voluntary accommodation (Section 20).
- Public Law Outline (PLO).
- Care proceedings and court orders.
- Your rights, support and sources of help.
