What is the MASH?  

The Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) in South Tyneside was established in 2014 to improve the way agencies work together to protect children. It brings professionals from different organisations into one team to share information quickly and make timely decisions about safeguarding concerns.

Who Works in the MASH?

The MASH includes representatives from:

  • Children’s Social Care
  • Northumbria Police
  • Health Services
  • Education
  • Other key safeguarding partners

What is its Purpose?

The MASH exists to:

  • Improve information sharing between agencies
  • Assess risk and vulnerability promptly
  • Decide the right level of intervention for children and families
  • Ensure consistent application of threshold guidance
